Produktbeschreibung
Salmon aquaculture has been one of the fastest growing industries in temperate ocean waters throughout the world. This book explains the background to the industry and the present state of knowledge with the aim of providing sufficient understanding and insight to anticipate and perhaps guide its future development. Major biological, technical and economic topics, ranging from broodstock to market, are described and discussed. The book emerged as a collaborative effort among three editors with a common interest in salmon aquaculture, but with different perspectives on this important topic. Knut Heen has studied the economic aspects of salmon farming; Robert Monahan has worked on the geographical distribution of various facets of the industry and Fred Utter has extensively researched various biological problems during his long career. Authors of substantial international reputation were invited to contribute specific chapters based on their experience and expertise in various areas relating to salmon aquaculture, and the result is a work which covers the whole subject.
