He was ordained a priest in 386, and eventually earned the name "Chrysostom" (Golden-Mouthed) for his life-changing sermons. He became the bishop of Constantinople in 397 A.D. The royal court was extremely disturbed by Saint Chrysostom's passionate sermons and he was removed from the city by the empress. The second time the empress had him walked to a distant location. This proved to be too much for Saint John's frail body, and he ultimately died on September 17, 407 A.D. Saint John Chrysostom has had a huge influence on the Christian church. He is renowned for his inspiring words, his piety, and his denunciation of the abuses of authority.
