The French are under German occupation back home. All the French colonies around the world now take their orders from the Vichy puppet government installed by the Germans. The French colonial government in Indochina must endure the presence of the Japanese who begin to commandeer all the country's natural resources for themselves. The local resistance is provided by the Viet Minh. Skilled in guerilla warfare, they have been fighting the French for years. Now, they find themselves with a common enemy. Both see the advantage in aiding the Chinese in their battle against the Japanese. Both sides attempt to prevent Kenda and his colleagues from stopping the supply network. A mysterious Catholic nun and a beautiful Viet businesswoman have something to do with the resistance. They know something; but what? How are they involved? Night clubs, French businesses, and government agencies all conduct suspicious clandestine activities. Dark underground passageways, a secret message system, and a vicious Army Intelligence Captain that uses murder as a weapon, all figure in the insane world that is Hai Phong, Indochina. Thomas Jackson-Lewis grew up in a traditional suburban home just outside of Chicago. He visited Japan for the first time in 1984. He married and had two sons. He lived in the Buddhist culture and studied their philosophy of reincarnation and karma. His work provides the reader with a Christian viewpoint as his protagonist finds his way to a belief in God.
