The Government of Andhra Pradesh takes pride in being farmer-friendly through the system of RYTHUBAZAARS. The purpose of Rythubazaars is to provide essentials, especially vegetables, to the common man at cheaper rates and to benefit the farmers by eliminating the middlemen. The general opinion among the consumers and farmers is that the idea is sound as consumers and farmers are deriving benefit out of Rythubazaars. The impact of Rythubazaars is significant on different sections of the people. The consumers are satisfied with the variety, freshness and cost of the product they are getting from Rythubazaars. And the farmers are happy since they are able to sell their produce and get good remunerative price. Rythubazaars in Andhra Pradesh have been functioning since January 1999. As we thought it appropriate to evaluate the performance of Rythubazaars with regard to its objectives, we conducted a study on Kakinada Rythubazaar. The study is empirical and its findings have driven us to bring out the work. In the preparation and publication of this work, help came from several people. We wish to place on record their contribution.
