The notion of writing a few pages of recollections about growing up in Ruthton, Minnesota in the 1940s and 1950s slowly came to me following the 2013 reunion of my class of 1954. Classes that graduated from 1951 to 1955 have organized joint reunions every five years beginning in the 1960s and continuing until the most recent one, that of 2013.

From the 1970s until retirement in 2003, James W. Park taught English, U. S. History, and Latin American History at the community college, college, and university levels. He was the recipient of a Fulbright Research Scholarship, lived in Colombia for three years, and earned a Ph.D. in Latin American History from the University of Kansas. For the last forty years he has resided in San Diego, California and can be contacted through email at jwpark54@cox.net.
