These names, of course, are fictitious but they are all derived from the ramblers I have met during the past 40 years. Readers will no doubt find it amusing to match some of their own club members to the descriptions given. The book ends with seven verses in praise of trekking in Nepal.

After 30 years teaching French, John took early retirement and set up 'Anglo-French Walks' organising walking holidays in the UK, France and Ireland for British and French walkers interested in each other's language and culture. Now fully retired, having covered some 20,000 miles with AFW, he considers hinself more ambler than rambler or scrambler. Drawing on his considerable experience, he has written two amusing and imformative books, 'Walking with Harry' and 'Walking with Harry in Chamonix.' In 2001, he was appointed 'Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Palmes Académiques' for 'services à la culture française.'
