The need for accelerated growth and development of the agricultural sector in Nigeria neccesitated the establishment of agricultural research institutes. Libraries were set up in these research institutes to ensure that agricultural research scientists, who constitute an important link in the agricultural information transfer chain, have consistent, speedy access to up-to-date information in their various fields of research interest. As the saying goes "no man is an island" so also no agricultural library is an island. No library can be said to be self-sufficient in the availablility of information resources in agriculture and related fields. Therefore there is need for agricultural research libraries to engage in resource sharing and make the system more efficient by forming electronic networks with the deployment of information and communication technologies (ICTs).
