He not only provides education for his workers, he pays them so that they might save for a better life. The Squire strongly supports family life amoung his workers. A family provides stability and purpose. The Squire had married a Cherokee Chief's daughter and the Squires' family are very close to his children's blood relatives. The Young Scottsman marries the Squire's daughter. Squire Banks sees the attitude towards England's rule, changing rapidly. He also has received a land grant in a place called Kentucky. The Squire feels that slavery is wrong and will be a serious issue after the colonies have dealt with England. The Scotts man and his young family are sent to Kentucky to establish a settlement where, Red, White and Black can live as equals and have a peaceful coexistence. The settlement will be required to become invisible if it is to survive.
