Greeley utilized his position to promote workers' rights, women's suffrage, and abolitionism as well as other social reforms. Greeley's dedication to progressive causes and his candor on political matters defined his journalistic career. During the American Civil War, he was a fervent opponent of slavery and a Republican Party supporter. The impact of Horace Greeley went beyond his work as a politician and journalist.
