La Dra. Vidyottma es abogada de profesión. Su lugar de trabajo habitual es el Tribunal Supremo de la India, en Nueva Delhi. Se licenció en Derecho en el Campus Law Center de la Universidad de Delhi. Es posgraduada en Ciencias Políticas y tiene un doctorado en Relaciones Internacionales. También obtuvo un diploma de posgrado en Derecho Laboral en el Instituto de Derecho de la India.
