He was President of the British Academy from 1917 to 1921. Among his many publications are 'Recent Developments in the Textual Criticism of the Greek Bible', 'Our Bible and the Ancient Manuscripts', 'Books and Readers in Ancient Greece and Rome', and 'The Bible and Archaeology.'
