Gonçalo M. Tavares nasceu em Luanda, Angola, em 1970. Passou a infância em Aveiro, norte de Portugal, e atualmente é professor na Universidade de Lisboa. Com mais de trinta e cinco livros, publicados em cinquenta países, é um dos autores de maior destaque da literatura portuguesa contemporânea. Sua extensa produção inclui poesia, contos, romances, peças de teatro e muitas obras que transcendem as simples classificações.Principais premiações: Prêmio LER/Millennium BCP (2004), ao romance Jerusalém Prêmio Literário José Saramago (2005), ao romance Jerusalém Grande Prêmio de Conto da Associação Portuguesa de Escritores Camilo Castelo Branco (2006), com Água, cão, cavalo, cabeça Prêmio Portugal Telecom de Literatura (2007), ao romance Jerusalém Prêmio Portugal Telecom de Literatura (2011), ao romance Viagem à Índia Vencedor e finalista de prêmios internacionais na Croácia, França, Irlanda, Itália, Holanda e Sérvia.
