This book investigates the way in which themes from the Robinson Crusoe novel have been elaborated variedly in cinematic Hollywood Robinson Crusoe adaptations released in the first decade of the 21st century. The films The Beach; Cast Away; Jurassic Park III; Madagascar; Swept Away and The Breed are analysed in order to provide a definition of the term ¿contemporary cinematic Robinsonade¿ and to interpret what cinematic Robinsonades reflect about contemporary political, environmental and cultural issues in the West.
