This book critically examines the current situation of undergraduate public relations education in Malaysia. It aims to contribute to the field by proposing an optimal curriculum model for the future. Since its inception in 1972, Malaysian public relations education has been modelled on the United States framework. Although public relations has been practised around the world for centuries, most public relations theorising and modelling today comes from North American research. This book will therefore examine the suitability of US curriculum and why does Malaysia need to look for alternatives. Author critics from a social constructivist viewpoint and combines three theoretical perspectives, namely, systems theory, critical theory, and four models of public relations. This could be among the first comprehensive study of undergraduate public relations education in Malaysia. It will be particularly useful to researchers who are concerned with examining the appropriateness of the United States-designed public relations education curriculum offered to undergraduate students in Malaysia, as well as to other non-Western countries.

Jamilah Ahmad,PhD, is an Associate Professor at the School of Communication, Universiti Sains Malaysia.She taught perviously at Universiti Teknologi Mara,Shah Alam and has serve as visiting Professor at Universitas Gadjah Mada,Indonesia. She is currently an accredited member and also Fellow of the Institute of Public Relations Malaysia(IPRM).
