Karen Stensgaard grew up in San Antonio, Texas and was a foreign exchange student for a year in Denmark when she tried aquavit for the first time. After completing her MBA in Texas, she moved to San Francisco and through a series of unexpected twists became an internal auditor focused on financial firms. Karen later moved to New York City and now lives in Philadelphia with her husband and cat Lucy. Aquavit is her debut novel with more stories about Kat's adventures underway.
