The study investigates the automation projects of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and University of Ibadan Libraries using the sample drawn from the two university libraries. The study goes down the memory lane of information and communication technologies (ICTs) application to information provision and utilisation in Nigeria university libraries. The study examined the level of application of such technologies in two university libraries by way of comparison. The study discovered Ahmadu Bello University adopted ALICE for WINDOWS library automation software package while the University of Ibadan adopted VIRTUA (VTLS) library automation software. The study also explored the functionality of the systems in terms of speed, systems security and number of modules, levels of user satisfaction, level of utilization of the automated systems by users.

Kabiru Abbas Dahiru was born in Maigari town of Rimin Gado Local Government, Kano State in the year 1980. He is currently teaching in the Department of Library and Information Sciences, Bayero University, Kano. He holds B.A and MLS in Library and Information Science and now pursuing PhD in Information Studies in the University Of Kwazulu-Natal.
