In February 1960,he organized a student demonstration repudiating the visit to Cuba of Anastas Mikoyán,the Soviet leader who led the massacre of the Hungarian people in 1956.He organized in Miami,together with other students,he Student Revolutionary Directory,an organization that is a tradition in Cuba.to fight dictatorships & its Secretary General is nominated,for which he immediately returns to the island to fight clandestinely in November 1960.He organizes an uprising of students & peasants in the mountains of the Sierra Maestra & is taken prisoner in April from 1961. On his first night as a prisoner,he is subjected to a mock shooting;on two occasions he suffered the torture of the Excrement Ditch;During the Plan of Forced Labor in Isla de Pinos,he was wounded twice with bayonets & was beaten dozens of times on his back with bayonets.The time isolated in punishment cells adds up to more than two years. This book is his memoirs where he recounts his life from childhood,family,studies,his struggles for freedom & justice in his country subjected to dictatorships.His struggles at the University of Havana, the Central Park protest against Mikoyan & Soviet interference,his first exile,the founding of the DRE,the return to Cuba clandestinely,the uprising in the Sierra Maestra, political prison & the new exile. En febrero de 1960 organiza una manifestación estudiantil repudiando la visita a Cuba de Anastas Mikoyán,el dirigente soviético que dirigió la masacre al pueblo húngaro en 1956.Organiza en Miami,conjuntamente con otros estudiantes,el Directorio Revolucionario Estudiantil,organización que es tradición en Cuba para combatir a las dictaduras y es nominado su Secretario General,por lo que vuelve inmediatamente a la Isla para luchar en clandestinidad noviembre de 1960.Organiza un alzamiento de estudiantes y campesinos en las montañas de la Sierra Maestra y es hecho prisionero en abril de 1961. En su primera noche como prisionero es sometido a un Simulacro de Fusilamiento;en dos ocasiones padeció la tortura de la Zanja de Excrementos;durante el Plan de Trabajo Forzado en Isla de Pinos,es herido en dos ocasiones con bayonetazos y es golpeado decenas de veces en sus espaldas con bayonetas.El tiempo aislado en celdas de castigo suman más de dos años.
