Water contaminated with lead (Pb) could be detoxified through phytoremediation technology by using aquatic weeds. This study also indicated that Perionyx excavatus was efficient in converting the lead contaminated aquatic weeds into vermicompost. Further, vermicomposting of phytoremediated aquatic weeds can be suitably utilized for maximum waste utilization and reduction of pollutants from the aquatic environment contaminated by heavy metals.
