Medicinal plants are part and parcel of human society to combat diseases, from the dawn of civilization. Azadirachta indica (neem), Aegle marmelos (bael), Citrus sinensis (orange), Emblica officinalis (Indian Gooseberry) are well known in India and its neighboring countries for more than 2000 years as one of the most versatile medicinal plants having a wide spectrum of biological activity. In our present study we tried to extract alkaloids from Neem, bael, Orange and Gooseberry to check their anti bacterial and anti fungal activities against some of the bacteria and fungi isolated from various sources and found effective against bacterial isolates Xanthomonas axonopodis which is responsible mainly for the crop loss of certain crops and effective against fungal isolates Candida albicans which is responsible for some skin diseases on mouth and tongue.
