In the present investigation the alkaloids and glycosides present in some drugs were detected quantitatively but they are not characterized by all the means, because of unavailability of respective authentic samples. In some cases, investigation is supported by IR and NMR techniques. The whole studies emphasize the concepts in a concise and systematic manner to formulate a background and arouse interest among the readers.The subject matter has been given in a simple style which would beneficial for the students and researchers in the field of Pharmacognosy (Botany).

Prof Dr S.S Deokule, HOD Botany, University of Pune is actively researcher, published 10 books and about 160 research papers and recipients of many national and international awards.He guided successfully 26 Ph.D. students and 19 M.Phil. students and at presently some students are doing research leading to M.Phil. and Ph.D. degree.
