* Pete decides he's ready for his first play date and pursues an invitation with dogged determination. * Pete wants to go on a play date! But when he grows impatient waiting for an invitation, he makes the most of an unexpected discovery and, as any superhero would do, takes matters into his own hands. * For children eager to grow and learn, Pete's First Play Date will satisfy self-determined spirits everywhere! * Pete's First Play Date is a story about self-determination and the glory of achieving a childhood "first.” It's a reminder that these milestones, while typical, are all important to the young child and worthy of celebratory joy (and in Pete's case, "jumping over tall buildings in a single bound”). * It's a delightful reminder of childhood's magic, creativity and imagination and also forging new friendships. * Story behind the story: "Pete's First Play Date was inspired by my grandson, who often takes his cues from his older sister. When she started going on playdates, he insisted that he was old enough to follow suit...even though, at the time, he was only three. As I listened to him passionately present his case that he was "old enough” and "big enough,” the idea for the story popped into my head!"
Autorenporträt
Ann Harrell believes in the power of story. As a licensed counselor, she listens to stories; as a certified dance therapist, she expresses stories through movement; and as a children's author, she creates stories. Ann writes picture books that relate to a child's social-emotional voice. Some of her stories reflect her upbringing in Turkey. Ann lives in Greensboro, NC with her husband and two dogs. When she's not writing, she enjoys family time, dancing, and taking walks with her golden retriever, rescued from the streets of Turkey. Renate Vermeulen-Potter (Tilburg, 1982) is a self-taught illustrator (and aspiring author) from the Netherlands. She used to work as a (history) teacher at primary and secondary schools and always got inspired by her students. Her love for history, art, nature and teaching make her the person she is today. Full of dreams and energy to fill the world with more love and confidence in a brighter future.
