It involves selective alveolar decortication in the form of decortication lines and cortical perforations performed around the teeth that are to be moved. This technique has several advantages, including faster tooth movement, shorter treatment time, safer expansion of constricted arches, enhanced post-orthodontic treatment stability and extended envelope of tooth movement. Alveolar augmentation of labial and lingual cortical plates are also used in an effort to enhance and strengthen the periodontium, reasoning that the addition of bone to alveolar housing of the teeth, using modern bone grafting techniques, ensures proper rootcoverage.

Dr Ravi Bhandari completed his post graduation in Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopedics in 2014 from Institute Of Dental Sciences, India and presently working as a senior lecturer in UDMRI,India.
