Compared with the conventional separation methods, the separation process with the functionalized 2D nanostructured membranes is an energy-efficient and environmentally benign technology. The principles of improving the effect of functionalized chemical groups of 2D nanostructured membranes and also their important substrate role on the separation process highlighted. Accordingly, our feedback can be useful for the investigation of the effect of functionalized groups embedded in the 2D nanostructured membranes on the separation process.
