Lillian Hellman wurde 1907 in New Orleans geboren. Außer Bühnenstücken ("The Little Foxes", "Watch on the Rhine"), für die sie 1964 mit der "Gold medal for drama" ausgezeichnet wurde, schrieb sie Buchkritiken für die New York Herald Tribune, Filmdrehbücher und Beiträge für Zeitschriften. Sie war Dozentin an der Harvard University. Sie ist 1975 gestorben.
