Kris Van Handel lives in Madison, Wisconsin with her partner, Jared, and their dog, Maisy. Kris has section hiked the entire Ice Age Trail four times at the time of publication of this book and she plans to continue hiking for the rest of her life. She also wrote a memoir, Hiking with Hair Tie: Section Hiking the Ice Age Trail, which is about her first section hike. Besides hiking, Kris also enjoys volunteering with the Ice Age Trail Alliance. When Kris isn't hiking, she works with children with autism as a behavior analyst.
