Today almost every web application makes use of APIs. With the increase in the use of Web apps and APIs, there also comes the risk and security flaws associated with it. In this article, we first discuss Vulnerability Assessment & Penetration Testing followed by the vulnerabilities related to web apps and APIs. The tools that are used for penetration testing of these applications are also discussed along with the mitigation techniques of the vulnerabilities discussed previously. Lastly, we have mentioned the framework that could be used for designing any Vulnerability Assessment & Penetration Testing tool that is robust, accurate, and efficient having a mixture of both automated and manual testing functionalities that could apply to web applications and APIs pentesting.
