Volatile organic solvents are the normal media used in bothresearch scale and industrial scale synthesis of organic chemicals.Their environmental impact is significant, however, and so thedevelopment of alternative reaction media has become of greatinterest.

Developments in the use of water as a solvent for organic synthesishave reached the point where it could now be considered a viablesolvent for many organic reactions. Organic Reactions in Waterdemonstrates the underlying principles of using water as a reactionsolvent and, by reference to a range of reaction types and systems,it s effective use in synthetic organic chemistry. Written by aninternationally respected team of contributors, and with a strongfocus on the practical use of water as a reaction medium, this bookillustrates the enormous potential of water for the development ofnew and unique chemistries and synthetic strategies, while at thesame time offering a much reduced environmental impact.

Rezensionen
"All chapters are referenced very well, and the literature iscovered up to early 2006"
Synthesis
"...forms an excellent reference work covering many aspects of water as a solvent, including its molecular and bulk properties..." ( Chemistry World , November 2007)
