As a prominent rabbi in Michigan, she is known for her warm, inspirational style and deep capacity to help people heal. For over 20 years, she has shared life's greatest joy and deepest sorrow with thousands of people. She officiates weddings locally and nationally, bringing warmth, dynamism and inclusivity to every ceremony. Closest to her heart, is her work with families as she tenderly and skillfully conducts funerals and offers comfort to those enduring loss. Rabbi Kolton completed her undergraduate degree in Jerusalem from Hebrew University and she is a fluent Hebrew speaker. Her master's degree is in clinical psychology. She is a Ph.D. and wrote her dissertation on The Experience of Being a Woman Rabbi. In 1999, she was the first person to be ordained a humanistic rabbi, an achievement recognized by The New York Times. She is included in the historical timeline of women rabbis. Tamara grew up in a Jewish congregation "without God" and was mentored by Rabbi Sherwin T. Wine, a radical and renowned rabbi. Ultimately, she became his successor and the senior rabbi at the very congregation where she grew up. In 2012, she felt an intense spiritual yearning to discover God for herself and set out on a brave quest. In searching for "Him," she found "Her." Today, Rabbi Kolton is most passionate about the Feminine Divine and how to bring Her energy to a world in desperate need of feminine truth, light and power. She asks us to see Eve, of the bible, as a heroine and an unabashed powerhouse of beauty and bravery. She asks us to see ourselves that way too. Tamara is married to her Israeli-born husband and the mother of two teenagers. They live in Birmingham, Michigan with their Havanese dog, Finley.
