Optimal capacitor placement determines the size and location of capacitors be installed on a radial distribution feeder. Optimal capacitor placement determines the size and location of capacitors be installed on a radial distribution feeder. The capacitor placement problem is an optimization problem having an objective function composed of power losses subjected to bus voltage constraints that are commonly solved by employing a mathematical programming method. This book presents capacitor placement method which employs the differential evolution (DE) method and fuzzy logic for a given load pattern of the distribution system. The fuzzy logic reduces the number of alternatives to be examined and DE finds the optimal solution. This method is beneficial for the capacitor placement of large distribution systems. The proposed DE Algorithm is implemented in MATLAB for 15 bus, 33bus, 34 bus and 69 bus radial distribution systems, and results are more promising when compared to other Evolutionary algorithms.
