This study was carried out among rural women in Katieno West sub-location, Kisumu county, Kenya. The study sought to; identify the opportunities available for women in regard to land including access, use, control and ownership as a result of the land legislation's enacted in the new dispensation; explore the challenges that have hindered Kenyan women especially those living in rural areas from exploiting these opportunities; and make recommendations to policy makers and implementing bodies that will see both rural and urban women exercise their land rights.

Rose Otieno Ochieng earned her MA in Anthropology ¿ Development option from University of Nairobi in 2014. She is currently working as an Analyst in a consulting firm called Land Trees and Sustainability Africa based in Nairobi, Kenya. Her research interests are mainly land tenure systems and gender.
