"An imaginative and original depiction of one of life's everyday miracles." -- Kirkus Reviews (Starred) "Beautiful and enchanting." - The Children's Book Review "Expressively captures a luminous moment of discovery in the natural world...On Bird Hill leaves space for the imagination and underscores the surprising wonder found in everyday moments." - School Library Journal "Perfect rhyme...we are all explorers once we leave our egg and look around...Marstall's curving lines and paths draw the reader in...underscoring the intertwined relationship of humans and nature."--Booklist Reader "A sweetly surreal meditation on the everyday wonders that await in the wild...a dreamy story...echoes the nursery rhyme 'The Green Grass Grew All Around." - Publisher's Weekly Join New York Times bestselling children's book author, Jane Yolen, and award-winning artist Bob Marstall, as they take young children on a lyrical journey filled with beauty and wonder. On Bird Hill is the first in a whimsical children's storybook series, created by Jane and Bob exclusively for the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. This endearing story is loosely based on the old cumulative nursery rhyme "The Green Grass Grew All Around," first published as a song in 1912 with words by William Jerome and melody by Harry Von Tilzer. But in this version, it's a boy and his dog who find a newly hatched bird in a nest, on a branch, in a tree, on a hill in a magical little valley.
