Band members Dylan Anderson and Mark Tanner got their start in a band called Bless Me, Ultima with some friends until personal problems lead to their disbanding. Following that Dylan and Tanner collaborated again in the band Their Eyes Look North, heavily citing Dance Gavin Dance and Emarosa as influences. Soon after another personal problem, that band too disbanded. A local search by a band called We Are Kings (Of Machines original title) led to them discovering Tanner and Dylan Anderson and adding them to the roster. Before being signed by Rise Records, the band traveled to Chango Gridlock studios in Florida in an old van and a video recorder to document the making of their first EP asa new band.
