Obstetrical complications and the maternal morbidity and mortality they cause are a major concern for the international community. Despite the progress made in the world to reduce these complications, Cameroon is experiencing a worrying increase. Also, local data on maternal mortality are unreliable due to weaknesses in the routine health information system in general, and in the southern region in particular. For this reason, we conducted a descriptive cross-sectional study at the Ambam District Hospital with the overall objective of assessing the situation of obstetric complications in 2013 and 2014. We found a frequency of 28%. The most frequent complications thus listed were: premature rupture of membranes (60.2%) and dystocia (11.9%). The rest were associated forms (3.6%) and unspecified diagnoses (8.6%). We noted a low level of therapeutic knowledge of the treating staff according to the reference documents considered. In conclusion, the improvement of the management of these cases requires training and retraining of the staff.
