Doug Hood is an insightful writer who brings solid biblical exegetical understanding to everything he composes. Additionally, he possesses a brilliant way of translating his scholarship into nurturing pastoral care and/or spiritual challenge that is accessible to everyone. In short, when you read his writings you get an idea not merely of what the Bible says in general but, more personally, of what it says to us as communities and individuals of faith. In Nathanael Hood, we see confirmation of the cliché that an apple does not fall far from the tree. I first came to know Nathanael when I served for a decade as Senior Minister at Marble Collegiate Church in New York City. He was in the journalism industry at the time and began attending our church primarily, I think, because of his dad's friendship with my predecessor, the late Dr. Arthur Caliandro. From time to time, Nathanael and I would meet for coffee and conversation. It didn't take long for me to be impressed by his keen intellect and strong gifts for writing. The more I read his spiritual/biblical compositions, the more convinced I became that his obvious gifts were indicators of a Divine Calling, which would one day bear fruit for the Church at-large. In this book, you will see evidence of the personal spirituality and literary talents of both the father and the son. Doug and Nathanael Hood open to the reader biblical treasures which are then faithfully applied to our personal needs and dreams. This book is not merely a collection of thoughts or essays. It is, instead, a journey in the direction of timeless truth. Having transitioned for the most part from pulpit to classroom, this is the very sort of book I hope my students will read. Their textbooks give them information. This, however, will give them inspiration, guidance, and hope. Dr. Michael B. Brown Former Senior Minister, Marble Collegiate Church, NY, NY Instructor of Biblical Studies, High Point University Adjunct Instructor in D. Min. Studies, New Brunswick Theological School
