Any Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) application is a mixture of cutting-edge information and communication technologies that strive to provide innovative traffic management services in order to improve the efficiency, sustainability, and safety of a transportation network. The most integral part of an ITS application is the acquisition of traffic information for its successful functionality. IN this book, novel approaches for traffic information acquisition, such as an Optimal RSU Deployment Planner (ORDP) and Pre-processing Framework employing Multi-Layer Continuous Virtual Loop (PF-MCVL) to improve the precision of ITS applications are proposed and discussed. While it is vital to focus on enhancing independent ITS applications for precise functionality, it is also necessary to concentrate on integrating them into fully interoperable system. For this, a pilot Collaborative Gateway Architecture (CGA) that outlines interoperability modules and standards are also discussed. The performances of the proposed approaches are analyzed with simulations using soft computing techniques and the results shows enhancements in reliability, precision and quality of ITS applications.
