The purpose of this book chapter is to provide a detailed approach to the usage of new alternate fuel (lemongrass oil) for diesel engine without or with minor modifications in engine delivery systems. The diesel engine offers greater power output and better durability than petrol engines. This book chapter entails the following phases -The first phase provides a detailed preparation of neat lemongrass oil and its chemical structures. The various techniques are used to determine the compounds and functional groups present in the oil mixture using GC-MS (Gas chromatography-Mass spectroscopy) analysis and FT-IR (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy) analysis. -The second phase discusses LGO (Lemongrass oil) blend optimization on the basis of performance, combustion and emission characteristics and compared with standard diesel fuel operation. -The third phase provides an effect of fuel injection parameters such as variation in fuel injection pressure and timings. - The final phase discusses the reduction of NOx emission emitted from the diesel engine using EGR technique. The reader is expected to be familiar with the working process and basic features of diesel engine.
