In 2006 American Indian and Alaska Native persons comprised one percent of the state''s population. The Arapaho lived for more than a thousand years throughout the western part of Nebraska. In a prehistoric period; Nebraska was home to the Arikara; after 1823 they returned to live with the Skidi Pawnee for 2 years. The eastern range of the Cheyenne included western Nebraska, after the Comanche lived in the area before moving south towards Texas.
