In this work, we introduce new path diversity schemes inorder to provide robustness for both unicast and multicast videocommunication applications over wireless ad hoc networks. We firstpropose a general architecture for multipath video streaming overwireless ad hoc networks. Then for the unicast case, we proposemultipath streaming with two node-disjoint paths, which haveminimum concurrent Packet Drop Probability (PDP) among all pathpairs. This approach minimizes the probability of concurrent lossof all the descriptions, thus optimizing the worst case MultipleDescription Coding (MDC) video quality over all times. Based on ourpath selection model, we propose a heuristic PDP aware multipathrouting protocol. For the multicast case, we propose multiple treevideo multicast with MDC. Specifically, we propose two distributedprotocols, Serial Multiple Disjoint Tree Multicast Routing (SerialMDTMR) and Parallel Multiple Nearly-disjoint Trees MulticastRouting (Parallel MNTMR). We show videoquality of proposedprotocols are significantly higher than that of other protocols, through extensive NS simulations and actual experiments.
