This is the original research work done by the authors on therapeutic evaluation of aniseeds. This work proves aniseed to possess antioxidant, antidiabetic, antiinflammatory, hypotensive and also antiproliferative effects. The therapeutic potential of aniseeds is attributed to phytoceuticals viz. phenolics, flavanoids, flavonols like rutin, luteolin, apigenin, quercetin, etc. present in them, predominantly luteolin 6c-glucoside. Hence, aniseeds can be used as a functional food for treatment of stress induced diseases such as diabetes, arthritis, etc.

Dr.Shobha Iyer completed her Phd in Food Science and Nutrition from the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning under the supervision of Prof.(Mrs.) B Andallu. She received a gold medal for proficiency in M.Phil in Food Science and Nutrition. She has to her credit several papers published in International peer reviewed journals.
