Callus cultures are of vital importance since they are endowed with potential to produce plants through embryogenesis/organogenesis. This property helps to explore the underlying basis of differentiation. These cultures can also employed for enhanced secondary metabolites production by manipulating the composition of culture medium. This doctoral dissertation on Chlorophytum borivilianum, an important medicinal plant comprises of six chapters: Chapter-1 highlights the background for selection of this plant species along with objectives; Chapter-2 is compilation of relevant updated literature in the area of tissue culture, biochemical and secondary metabolite; Chapter-3 deals with the details of materials and techniques applied; Chapter-4 presents the findings of investigation supported by tables, photographs and illustrations; Chapter-5 discusses the results in the light of available literature and Chapter-6 presents the summary of the work which is followed by literature cited. This doctoral dissertation will be useful for reseachers working in the area of plant tissue culture, basis of morphogenesis and secondary metabolite production.
