This book illuminates varied concepts of mission in an urban community in the Allison Hill section of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Using a narrative method, it explores the biblical and theological aspects of mission work and how it can be approached more effectively. The main thesis of the project is that churches seeking to do mission work need not only consider foreign countries, but can invest their energies and resources in communities within the United States. Along with my research, I use case studies and interviews to describe how many of these urban congregations and organizations work selflessly with limited resources to achieve their unique styles of mission; and they are doing it in their own backyard in their own country. Thus, birthing the title of this book, "Mission on the Block; Various Concepts of Urban Ministry." In addition to my doctoral thesis, I produced a documentary entitled, Mission on the Block. It was important to me to give my audience a visual background of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Most importantly, Allison Hill, where I currently serve as a pastor. It also highlights several of the organizations that I write about in the book.
