The research was initiated to isolate and characterize indigenous rhizobia nodulating faba bean, and evaluate symbiotic characteristics between the crop and the rhizobia in major fababean producing area i.e. Kota district of Hadauti Region of Rajasthan. The results indicated that biological fertilizers namely Rhizobium and (V)AM could be used instead of chemical fertilizers, because they are cheap, easy to use and improve plant growth and provide stress tolerance. This book suggests that application of biofertilizers is an acceptable approach for higher yield with good quality and safe for human consumption. The strength of current breeding programs for faba bean in the region favors this discipline in the long term to improve nitrogen inputs into farming systems through increased dinitrogen fixation. Thus, it can be concluded that the use of bio-fertilizersis the best option for feeding the growing population viz-a-viz maintaining good soil health status.
