Documentation of indigenous knowledge system on medicinal tree resources was made in a total of 10 tropical dry evergreen forest areas. Dr. M. Udayakumar arbeitet als Assistenzprofessor an der Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli, Indien. Seine Spezialgebiete sind die Taxonomie von Angiospermen, Waldökologie und Kohlenstoffdynamik. Derzeit arbeitet er an der Kohlenstoffdynamik von tropischen Dornwäldern. Im Jahr 2010 erhielt er ein INSPIRE-Stipendium. Ranginhaber des Presidency College, Chennai.
