Women in the Indian Ocean use for various reasons different parts of plants (leaves, barks, roots, etc.) in the treatment of various diseases or for body care. However, information on the plants used in the care of the woman in childbirth remains fragmentary and unknown. The knowledge on the plants used in traditional medicine is thus incomplete. The present study that we have undertaken is based on ethnobotanical surveys in order to identify the medicinal plants used by Malagasy women, more precisely Majungian women and Comorian women.
