Critically ill patients have life-threatening illnesses requiring a range of high-level interventions and responses to that treatment can be unpredictable. Among these patients are the mechanically ventilated patients. To depend on mechanical ventilation after critical illness is a challenge to both the patient and the critical care nurses; so the intensive care unit (ICU) nurse must use a holistic approach while providing nursing care for mechanically ventilated patients.
