Desmond P. Ryan was born and raised in Toronto, Canada. He completed an honors Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Literature and Political Science at the University of Toronto before spending the next thirty years as a detective with the Toronto Police Service. He now resides in a neighborhood in Toronto known as Cabbagetown, where he spends his time writing, teaching, and wandering off to the pub.
