Autorenporträt
Growing up, I was actively involved with children my age and younger, and I have a huge heart for the little ones. At a young age I volunteered at summer camps and Sunday school. As I got older, I gained experience babysitting, tutoring, and nannying. Although in each of these roles my purpose was-and is-to help the kids, I believe they have taught me more than I could ever teach them.My connections with children have allowed me to grow and learn in so many unimaginable ways, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. Working with kids at such a close-knit level means emotions are often involved. I started to notice that many children do not understand their emotions or how to embrace and deal with feelings. This brought me back to my childhood. Looking at my life now-as I have grown to be far more self-aware-and comparing that to my childhood, I began feeling so much compassion for my younger self who did not know how to comprehend her emotions. As I recall my own childhood, I wish someone had taught me how to approach my emotions and appreciate that they are not bad, even those perceived as negative. This realization inspired me to write and illustrate children's books to guide children in the direction of self-awareness by providing tools for simple ways to approach their emotions at a young age. I hope the series Mama, I feel... not only strengthens the parent-to-child relationship, but directs children to connect with themselves and their emotions.
