Autorenporträt
Tom Schwendler has dedicated the second half of his life to officiating weddings and counseling couples. A graduate of the NYC-based All Faiths Seminary International, Tom was ordained an interfaith minister in 2017. He designs and produces customized wedding ceremonies across New York State leveraging his experience in orchestrating corporate webcasts and other events as a corporate communications professional for more than 30 years. He has speaks from experience having been happily married for 34 years. A writer at heart, Tom began his career as a newspaper reporter, a journey supported by his aunt Annie whose contacts helped him get a foot in the door at the now defunct Buffalo Courier-Express. His aunt was a big influence on Tom's personal life as well. Annie and her husband, Bill were like second parents to Tom who often got an ear full of stories about their early days together. Annie and Bill have long since passed but they continued to share stories in hundreds of letters Tom discovered in an old suitcase left behind by his uncle. Years later, Tom opened the suitcase in 2020 out of boredom in his basement. It was a time when many people were reconnecting with friends and relatives and so did Tom even though these two relatives were dead. The letters described the long distance relationship of a "Small Town Boy" and a "Big City Girl" from 1946-1948 in upstate New York. In this book, Tom mines the suitcase to extract some nuggets of wisdom from these analog times to help us better navigate our relationships in a digital world.
