UTLEY, coauthor of History Ahead: Stories beyond the Texas Roadside Markers, Echoes of Glory: Historic Military Sites across Texas, and other books, formerly served as chief historian of the Texas Historical Commission. He is now chief historian for the Center for Texas Public History at Texas State University in San Marcos. STANLEY O. GRAVES, FAIA, is a preservation architect and senior principal with the Architexas firm in Austin. He previously served as director of the architecture division and deputy state historic preservation officer for the Texas Historical Commission.
