Author Doris Marciel is a retired elementary teacher. Her grandfather and mother were born in San Lorenzo and her grandmother in Castro Valley. She has authored many articles about the Hayward area and teaches classes on the history of San Lorenzo. The photographs are from the collections of the Hayward Area Historical Society, the author, and private individuals.
